OUR APPROACH

The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) India approach is guided by the core belief that
strengthening capacity, ensuring enabling infrastructure, and assisting local actors will result in
long-term and transformative change. For more than two decades, AKAH has been at the forefront
of disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation efforts, spearheading a diverse range

By bringing together people, data, and innovation towards a positive and lasting impact

WE WORK THROUGH A THREE-PRONGED APPROACH

COMMUNITY-CENTRED

AKAH seeks to build resilient communities by leveraging traditional and technical expertise, developing inclusive and innovative solutions for climate action. We adopt a collaborative model, working with communities to identify solutions to their most pressing problems. We focus on improving support social infrastructure such as schools and housing for climate-adaptation, and building an ecosystem that is conducive to growth, and empowering people to lead change.

AKAH uses a data-driven approach to develop proactive, efficient, and risk-informed actions to improve people's lives. This involves use of data to prioritize response efforts; assess and map natural hazard risk, map and model watersheds to understand water distribution in water-stressed areas; and track progress and inform actions in real time.

AKAH works with wide a range of like-minded local and international partners to bring together diverse perspectives, resources, and expertise from multiple stakeholders to design coordinated and effective climate action. AKAH India works closely with government, civil society, and local communities to build ownership and sustainability. We also work with academia, think tanks, research partners and development practitioners to design and implement innovative development projects.
