Access to clean drinking water is a basic human right, yet many communities in tribal areas lack this fundamental resource. The root cause of this problem is multi-faceted, with a lack of proper infrastructure, remoteness of these communities, and limited resources being some of the key factors. The absence of roadways, pipelines, wells, and other essential water supply systems results in these communities relying on contaminated water sources, such as streams and ponds, which can lead to the spread of waterborne diseases and other health problems. The impact of this situation is especially severe for children, pregnant women, and elderly individuals, who are more susceptible to waterborne diseases and illnesses.

Solar-based drinking water pipeline to the rescue

To address this issue, the solar-based drinking water pipeline project was initiated to provide a reliable and sustainable solution for these communities in Burud pada. The use of solar power ensures that the water distribution system operates even in remote areas where there is no access to the electricity grid. The project draws water from a dug well to a storage tank and distributes it to 60 families in Burud pada through a solar-based pump system with a filtration unit. The pipeline system is designed to follow the natural flow of the contour and is dedicated in such a way that there are minimum joints along the road for connectivity. With 18 taps each catering to 3- 4 households.
